Sharon Friedman, Dance Writer, Editor and Education Consultant, writes that Magruder's book "does exactly what it purports to do. It presents an entirely practical and very effective guide...a truly splendid book." Friedman adds, "It is not often that a book comes along which goes straight to the praxis so effectively."

Rima Faber, Ph.D., writes, "Ella H. Magruder describes the essential elements necessary for forming and sustaining a small touring company...an excellent text." Rima finds the "smorgasbord of successful models for production and company endurance" and the "performance philosophy to not 'dance down' to children" particularly heartening.
